Predator Hunts
|
Texas is home to many different predators such as mountain
lions, bobcats, coyotes, grey fox, red fox, badgers, raccoons,
and ringtail cats. Also, there are many varmints such as skunks,
prairie dogs, and jackrabbits. In Texas hunters are allowed to
hunt out of a vehicle and may also hunt either day or night. The
licenses are very inexpensive and with the collapse of the fur
market no one is trapping so predators are at record populations.
Hunters may harvest as many fur-bearers as they choose each day,
but may only reduce one of each species into possession for the
sole purpose of having that animal mounted. Non-furbearers such as
mountain lions, bobcats and coyotes are not restricted except that
all bobcats must be sealed by a Texas Parks and Wildlife official
before crossing state lines. There is no closed season for predator hunting. |

Come Hunt With Us
|
|
We have been calling predators for sport and the furs
for 32 years. After depending on our calling skills for
years to place high in calling contests and to supplement
our income, we have developed a consistent calling technique
to outwit these wily predators. Our ranches total over 600,000
acres for our clients to predator hunt. Custom trips to Africa,
Alaska, New Mexico, Texas, and Wyoming can be arranged. |
|
Hunting Methods
|
While we hunt either day or night,
the majority of our predator hunts are at night. This is because these animals are more nocturnal,
especially bobcats, and respond much better to calls at night. Our primary method
of hunting is via 4WD trucks. We have 2 highly customized 4 door,
4WD trucks that are each equipped with 11 foot high custom shooting
platforms with two swivel seats and a completely padded 360 degree
shooting rest. We utilize computer, cassette tape, and mouth blown calls.
Your guide works the call while shining a dim red light searching for the
glow of the eyes of an approaching predator. Once one is located, the guide
will tap the hunter on the shoulder to let him know that one is on the way.
When the predator stalks to within gun range the guide lights him up with a
1 million candle power spotlight upon which the hunter can open fire.
Most shots are under 35 yards so shotguns are best while longer shots
may require a small caliber rifle. Daytime hunts are much like any other
hunt whereby you hunt early morning and late afternoon. |

“Thank you for a great predator and blackbuck hunt. I truly enjoyed my stay with you. You have a beautiful facility. Although the weather did not cooperate on my predator hunt, Jim's excellent guiding and predator calling ability helped me to bag eleven predators during my hunt. I had a great time and learned a lot about predator calling. I am planning on another predator hunt next year. I would have no hesitation in recommending Magnum Guide Service to my friends. Everything was as advertised and more. Having recently finished a hunt with another outfitter where things were not as advertised, I was especially pleased. I sent a good report on my hunt to The Hunting Report. Again, thank you for a great time.”
