Required Qualifications
  • Professionalism and Social Skills: Ability to interact respectfully and confidently with clients and team members.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and in a team with a positive attitude and good communication skills.
  • Behavior Standards: No drinking or smoking is allowed on the premises.
  • Christian Values: A commitment to upholding and representing our faith-based principles.
  • Enforcement: Must be able to follow state game laws and ranch rules while also making sure others adhere to them as well.
  • Record-Keeping: Capable of maintaining accurate, legible records.
  • Hunting Experience: Must have a strong background in hunting.
  • Firearms Experience: Must have passed a hunter education class.
  • Strong Physical Fitness
  • Drive: Willingness to work long hours and in different weather conditions.
  • Navigation Skills: Proficient in navigating large, multi-acre ranches.
  • Basic Photography Skills: Must be able to take good, respectful photographs of clients.
  • First Aid Skills: Successfully complete a Red Cross First Aid class within 6 months of joining the team.
  • Driving Requirements: 21 or older with a clean driving record to meet commercial insurance requirements.
  • Background Check: Must be able to pass a background check.
  • References: Strong recommendations from previous employers or mentors.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Guiding Experience: Previous guiding experience with both large and small game.
  • Guide License: Ideally licensed in multiple states or willing to apply.
  • Culinary Expertise: Occasional grilling or barbecuing for small groups of clients.
  • Wildlife Surveying: Familiarity with surveying game populations.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • Calling Game: Expertise in calling turkeys or predators.
  • Preparing Game: Ability to skin, quarter, debone, shoulder cape, full cape, and Boone & Crockett (B&C) score harvested game.
  • Ballistics Knowledge: Understanding of modern ballistics and long-range shooting techniques.
Additional Duties
  • Helping local veterinarians with wildlife on our hunting properties
  • Help dispense surplus venison within the local community and through churches connected to the orphanages along the Texas/Mexico border.
  • Filling and maintaining wildlife feeders
  • Culling sick/surplus wildlife
  • Basic ranch work
Compensation

MGS guides are paid a daily rate DOE plus tips when guiding. MGS guides earn on average $300-$450 per day. Interns average $2,500+ per month DOE plus food & lodging. Ranch and wildlife management work is paid hourly @ $16-$20 hr DOE.

Internship Program

For those adventure minded outdoorsman who already possess a strong background in hunting but lack some of the skills listed above, we offer an internship program individually designed to address the specific needs of each applicant so that they may be equipped to enter into the world of professional guiding!

Intern positions are available starting in August and extending through January. Monthly salaries for interns are based upon experience and include most meals & lodging. Applicants must be 21 yrs of age, have no felony convictions, favorable references, and possess a clean driving record to drive Magnum vehicles.
